What you are building

Pathwalk is a file manager you assemble in twelve short stages. The teaching stack is GTK (Python 3, PyGObject GTK4, pathlib). By the end you should understand the shell, the data you persist, and the everyday workflows people expect from this kind of app.

GTK powers many Linux file managers. Teaching Pathwalk means directories, selection, and safe delete—not reinventing the kernel.

Places sidebar + file list is the familiar two-pane pattern. Use pathlib for traversal and confirm before destructive ops.

Work in order. Early folders are intentionally small so you can see the window (or server) boot before features pile on. From the data-layer part onward, each snapshot should still run after you install dependencies.
