Process signals reference

What SIGTERM, SIGKILL, and friends mean when you stop a process.

Common signals

SIGTERM (15): Polite stop — prefer this first.
SIGINT (2): Interrupt (Ctrl+C).
SIGHUP (1): Hangup; many daemons reload config.
SIGKILL (9): Force kill; process cannot catch it.
SIGSTOP / SIGCONT: Pause and resume.
